FOLLOWING FORMER FBI DIRECTOR JAMES COMEY’S TESTIMONY BEFORE THE , LIBERAL MSNBC ANCHOR CHRIS MATTHEWS HAS STATED THAT THE TRUMP/RUSSIA COLLUSION STORY IS DEAD.
“The assumption of the critics of the President, of his pursuers, you might say, is that somewhere along the line in the last year the President had something to do with colluding with the Russians,” stated Matthews on air, as transcribed by The Washington Examiner.
“And yet what came apart this morning was that theory,” he continued, arguing that Comey revealed former National Security Advisor Mike Flynn “wasn’t central to the Russian investigation,” which he claims means Flynn is not in a position to testify against Trump on that matter.
“And if that’s not the case, where’s the there-there?” Matthews said.
Needless to say, this is quite the concession speech, coming from someone like Chris Matthews, who once speculated on air with a guest that Trump launched an airstrike against Syria in April to distract from evidence of Russian collusion.
“I thought if there was a way for him to kill the narrative that he’s in bed with Putin, it would be this,” Matthews said, as transcribed by Mediaite.
“Take on Putin’s fresh water port, take on his ally, his satellite, his loyal ally Assad. That would be a way of saying, “I never was in bed with these guys. I never planned any kind of coalition with this guy in Moscow.”
Matthews has apparently had quite the change of heart over the last two months, given his current stance on the matter.
There was also that time Chris Matthews cut coverage of the Manchester bombing to discuss “shocking news out of Washington” that people had known about for days.
Namely, Matthews cited a report from The Washington Post, which used anonymous sources to accuse the President of asking top intelligence chiefs to deny allegations of Trump/Russia collision.
Just a few days ago, Matthews grilled former Trump adviser Carter Page and accused him of “hiding” in response to allegations that he had ties with Russia.
